This resource focuses on the components of soil and the living things that are found in the soil. There are also activities on comparing soil samples; a comparison of water absorption by different soils and the effects of water on soil. Students also work on separating soil into its component parts through sieving and sedimentation. There are investigations of plant roots and how they grow through the soil and activities that take a close look at animals that tunnel through and live in the soil surfaces. Also included are numerous activities on weathering, erosion and deposition of soil.
